Since its commencement of work in 2007, the Joint Emergency Reporting and Assessment Centre Sea has been housed in the office building of the Waterways and Shipping Administration in Cuxhaven.

The new building of the Maritime Safety and Security Centre is currently being constructed under the overall control of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. The new Maritime Safety and Security Centre will be located on the premises of the Cuxhaven Waterways and Shipping Office, in the immediate vicinity of the existing office building.

In addition to the Joint Emergency Reporting and Assessment Centre, the new building is planned to provide office spaces for the Central Command for Maritime Emergencies as well as for the heads of the coordination centres of the Federal Police Department of Maritime Security, the Waterways and Shipping Administration, the Fishery Protection Agency, the Federal Customs Administration, the German Navy and the Waterways Police.

Costs

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure provides about 25 million euros for the construction project. An additional 5,5 million euros are budgeted for the sophisticated and specific information and communications technology of the MSSC.

Time Schedule

The groundbreaking ceremony took place in February 2017.
