Operational Area
The area of responsibility of the Joint Emergency Reporting and Assessment Centre Sea as a joint institution of the Federal Government and the Germany coastal states comprises - law Section 3 (1) of the administrative agreement on a Maritime Safety and Security Centre - the cooperation:
- within the exclusive economic zone of the Federal Republic of Germany;
- on maritime waterways as defined in Section 1 (2) sentence 1 of the Federal Waterways Act;
- on the navigable waterways of the River Elbe (excluding the Hamburg delegation area), the Kiel Canal, the Rivers Trave, Warnow and Weser law the German Traffic Regulations for Navigable Maritime Waterways and, on the River Ems, law Section 1 of the regulation on the introduction of the shipping regulation concerning the estuary of the River Ems.

The partners of the MSSC operates all along the 3,660 kilometre-long German coast, on 15,055 square kilometres of territorial waters and in the Federal Republic of Germany’s Exclusive Economic Zones, which span an area of 48,050 square kilometres.
