The operational area comprises 1,978 sea

miles of German coastline, 4,399 square sea

miles of territorial waters and the German

exclusive economic zone of an area of 14,040

square sea miles.

Operational Area

The area of responsibility of the Joint Emergency Reporting and Assessment Centre Sea as a joint institution of the Federal Government and the Germany coastal states comprises - iaw Section 3 (1) of the administrative agreement on a Maritime Safety and Security Centre - the cooperation:

  1. within the exclusive economic zone of the Federal Republic of Germany;
  2. on maritime waterways as defined in Section 1 (2) sentence 1 of the Federal Waterways Act;
  3. on the navigable waterways of the River Elbe (excluding the Hamburg delegation area), the Kiel Canal, the Rivers Trave, Warnow and Weser iaw the German Traffic Regulations for Navigable Maritime Waterways and, on the River Ems, iaw Section 1 of the regulation on the introduction of the shipping regulation concerning the estuary of the River Ems.
